Dalton Mortensen, Bountiful (Jr.)
Dalton Mortensen turned in a dominant performance at the state cross country meet at Sugar House Park last week.
Not only did Mortensen win the 5A race with a whopping 27-second cushion, but his time of 15:14.2 was the fastest time of any of the six classifications.
“When getting to know Dalton, one of the things that stands out about him is how humble he is. Teachers, colleagues and teammates have often told me how impressed they are with his humility and how he is so down to earth,” said Bountiful coach Ben Jacobson.
As a sophomore last year, Mortensen finished 10th at the state meet but this year he ran 50 seconds faster at the state meet.
“Dalton’s drive to constantly improve is unmatched. He is up before school for morning runs, he never misses practices, he is team-oriented, he is always ready to be at his best, he is a student of the sport, he takes ownership of his training and recovery, and even after his best races he’s out ready to run the next day. Dalton is very talented, combining that with his outstanding work ethic makes him exceptional,” said Jacobson. – James Edward Deseret News Prep Sports
